Dear Craig, Thank you, again, for giving us the opportunity to provide your readers with information that intends to offer assurance and confidence. When choosing a funeral director, we believe it’s important to determine if the business can demonstrate its commitment to service and professionalism by way of accreditation and membership of an industry association. Members of the Australian Funeral Directors Association (AFDA) are subject to a 3year accreditation assessment program that that reflects our stance and principles associated with occupational health and safety, public health standards and public expectations about professional care and service. AFDA members comply with a comprehensive code of ethics, a number of practice statements and adherence to policies that reassure clients that they and their loved-ones are being cared for professionally and with the utmost respect. The AFDA is very proud that its members choose and subscribe to the values of self-regulation, however, recently we took the view to encourage state governments to consider regulating the profession of funeral direction. We believe it is imperative that families can always arrange a funeral with the confidence and knowledge that their chosen funeral director is operating within a high standard of regulations regardless of their affiliation with the AFDA. The Australian Funeral Directors Association can be contacted by telephone on (03) 9859 9966, email info@afda.org.au or for a complete list of members firms visit www.afda.org.au Yours sincerely,
Tony O’Dea Mr Craig Davies 22 January 2004
Dear Craig Congratulations on your foresight and initiative in establishing the magazine, "Peace of Mind". It appears to fill a niche not provided by any other magazine and provide valuable support to those making decisions about funeral and death care products. The Australasian Cemeteries and Crematoria Association (ACCA) supports the Peace of Mind publication for it's professional, open and positive approach to addressing the issues of death, dying and memorialisation. ACCA recognises the importance of people being fully informed about the choices available to them and their families. Peace of Mind plays an important role in achieving this. ACCA is a professional industry body that exists to provide support, direction and education to member cemeteries, crematoria and memorial gardens throughout Australasia. Members of our association now represent some 80% of all burial and cremation services conducted in Australia. Our member cemeteries, crematoria and memorial gardens must abide by a range of Codes of Practice, Guidelines and Rules of the Association to be considered for membership of ACCA. It is a prudent choice for your readers to entrust an ACCA Member cemetery, crematoria or crematoria with the care of their family in death, and very importantly in assisting with the dignified memorialisation and remembrance of the life of each family member. Therefore any member of the community, selecting an ACCA member cemetery or memorial garden can be confident of the integrity of the organisation. Your readers are welcome to contact the Australasian Cemeteries and Crematoria Association, if they wish to be directed to their local ACCA member cemetery or memorial garden. We congratulate you and your team and look forward to future editions. Yours sincerely
James McKay
