Keep a permanent record of your precious memories with a finely crafted printed memorial.

BY ARTEMIS GOUROS

When we think of a memorial we usually envisage a monument in a memorial park, something solid that we can visit, a place where we can commune with departed love ones. The dictionary however defines a memorial as “serving as a reminder; anything intended to commemorate a person or an event”. At Peace of Mind we have explored the question of memorials and how they can differ from the traditional plaque or statue. In the past we have looked at Everlasting Garden Treasures, a way to keep a portable garden memorial with you at all times no matter where you live, and in this issue we look at a new concept in traditional memorials – the glass memorial. If we take the word memorial at its dictionary definition, it is anything that commemorates a person or event. A funeral is an event intended to commemorate the passing of a loved one and we have discovered a new way to keep the memories alive with a company called Blue Pearl.

Created by an experienced and talented graphic designer called Monica Erosa, Blue Pearl has a funeral stationery division. When we attend a christening or a wedding we take away with us an order of service and now with Blue Pearl we can do the same at funerals with a finely crafted funeral program to use during the service and to keep forever as a reminder. We have looked at the idea of funeral photography before, this is taking the concept one step further.

Over the years Monica’s friends and family recognised the way in which she became emotionally involved in each project she worked on as a designer and the way she strove to communicate the essence of any work she undertook. With her passion for her work, attention to detail and her natural artistry it was only a matter of time before people began to ask her to help honour their loved ones through personalised designed paper memorials.

Today Monica has a range of these lovingly crafted memorials that enable people to honour their loved ones with a special tribute, to share and celebrate lives with respect and care.

Personalised Designed Memorials

Monica’s commitment is to connect with you to create unique printed memorials, unique as the life that they commemorate, memorials that celebrate the lives and personalities of those who have passed on. Monica has devised a list of things to consider when creating a personalised designed memorial in order to reflect different aspects of the honoured person’s life and personality.

What did the person like to do?

Often people have hobbies that become more than just a casual pastime, as much a part of who they are as their smile. Why not showcase that important part of their life? Incorporating a hobby can be as simple as creating a memorial featuring pictures of one engaged in their favourite pastime or a eulogy about the person’s passion for the hobby.

What was the person like as an individual?

A way to enhance a printed funeral memorial is by bringing a piece of the person’s personality to the tribute. Consider what made that person special. What made them who they were?

What was the person like as a professional?

Many people take great pride in their career. Perhaps they dedicated a lifetime to a profession that transcended the definition of ‘just a job’. If this holds true for your loved one, you may want to consider ways to include their professional life in their printed memorial.

Was the person spiritual?

Through organised religion or personal beliefs, most people have some sense of spirituality in their life. Often those values form the very core of what the person was in life. Therefore, you may feel it is important to incorporate the individual’s sense of spirituality into their printed memorial.

Was the person proud of their heritage?

If the person was proud of their heritage, it is something to be recognised and shared. Why not express that important part of their life? Incorporating it can be as simple as creating a memorial featuring pictures of our loved one engaged in parties or community gatherings, wearing their typical clothes. Personalising the memorial with a symbol or flag of their heritage or a eulogy about the person’s passion for their heritage.

Biography

How would you like this person to be remembered? Provide a description, or story, about their life. You can include a biography about their personal historical events, thoughts, memories, accomplishments, or any other information you would like to be part of the Printed Memorial.

Imagine family and friends looking at the memorial years from now, wanting to know about this person. Share the thoughts and memories of the departed, describe their accomplishments or their philosophy on life. This is a unique opportunity to create a permanent tribute to this person.

Virtual Memorials

Monica is also working toward providing an online memorial that is complimentary with each personalised printed memorial that she creates. The online memorial can be accessed from anywhere in the world and there will also be an option to have just the personalised designed online memorial.

Autobiography

In addition to the personalised funeral programs Monica also has a service that gives people the chance to leave their own printed legacy. An autobiography is an enduring legacy that you can create and leave for your family. Your memories can endure for decades bringing insight and enjoyment to future generations.

What an amazing project to help make your own biography and give it away as a gift at your next family celebration! With the Blue Pearl method it's fun and not at all complicated. You will not only enjoy the experience but will also create a cherised family keepsake and preserve your life history for posterity.

Blue Pearl Memorials offers the perfect answer to those who wish to keep the memories alive. Remembering our loved ones and celebrating their lives and achievements has the power to bring together generations of families and friends in a common bond of love and provide them with a sense of belonging throughout generations.
