In a perfect world, no animal knows the pain of hunger, thirst, distress or discomfort. All pets have a happy, safe home and are protected and loved. They are never cruelly beaten, starved or abused. They do not know the pain of being neglected or abandoned. Animals are not made to suffer at the hands of a human being.

In a perfect world, there would be no need for the RSPCA.

But the world is not perfect.

Each year in New South Wales, the RSPCA, a non-government charity, provides shelter and care to approximately 33 000 homeless animals, investigates 20 000 complaints of animal cruelty and takes some 116 prosecutions through the courts. The RSPCA's services also include veterinary clinics and de-sexing programs, education and rehabilitation programs, and in a unique service agreement with St George Hospital, RSPCA NSW offers safe beds for pets in domestic violence.

This is huge task for a non-government charity – one that costs $23 million each year, with only $211,000 in government funding. And the RSPCA is also facing the huge task of rebuilding its shelters. By leaving a bequest to the RSPCA, however, people can help animals well into the future. Bequests help fund the work of the RSPCA, and in return, bequestors can be part of the RSPCA’s Pet Legacy program.

Those leaving a gift in their Will can then enjoy peace of mind knowing the Society will provide a loving home for their beloved pets and take care of them for the rest of their days.
